A large Forgeworld order and my Imperial fleet arrived last week and needless to say I have been happily busy. However I made a promise to a new friend that I am going to talk about him and his services first.
While looking for some relatively inexpensive Battlefleet Gothic stuff on eBay, I came across some very interesting gaming accessories. This ebay user known as "Speepy123" sells a special type of flying stands made out of areospace quality aluminum that WILL NOT break! (under normal use)
They come in a variety of sizes, starting from 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1 1/4 inch, to 1 1/2 inch and they have a nice even taper from end to end. (Mind you, these stems are measured from the tapered ends EXCLUDING the nipples.) So these aren't necessarily the same height as the gamesworkshop flying stands HOWEVER they are still compatible with Gamesworkshop models and will provide a snug fit.
The only difficulty I had was the bottom nipple of the stems didn't fit the flying stand base well so I had to widen the base hole using a file. Other than that there were no other problems. Of course I cant test these stems on every single Gamesworkshop model that uses flying stands but I am confident in their compatibility.

As for painting, it went on nicely with a flat even coat. The stems come with a slightly rough texture to ensure the paint will adhere to the aluminum surface but I went ahead and smoothed it out and my first coat of primer was flawless. However I cant stress enough how important it is to use a spray primer basecoat for these stems and all your models for that matter. Painting your basecoat with chaos black is fine if you like flaky models.
If you are interested in acquiring these wonderful stems, you can contact Speepy via his ebay page here or you can email him at: speepyssystems@gmail.com. These stems are made in the good ol' USA and he will replace them if they are broken. With that, Speepy if you are reading this I hereby present to you the Made of Win award for outstanding awesomeness and internet gallantry!
